Pedalpalooza Daily, Saturday June 11th

New Pedalpalooza stickers… showing up
at a ride near you.

I hope you’re pacing yourselves. It’s only day 3 of Pedalpalooza and there are 21 rides today! If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to ride naked, or to venture north into Washington, today is your day. Check out the full list below and see more details on the Shift Calendar.

8:30am Community Gardens By Bike
What better way to learn about the greener side of Portland than by bike. Join me for a casual bike ride to various community gardens*. We will meet up at jcafe (Bring your coffee mugs). The ride will descend upon the Portland Farmers Market at Portland State University. The ride will be 10-15 miles long depending on the size of the group.

9:00am Racing the Tubes
Contestants will race around PDX, checking in at various pre-determined locations by associating a wifi (802.11b/g) device with pre-setup access points. Contestants shall receive points based on what order they reach said APs. But wait! There’s more! Contestants shall also be able to improve scores by skipping up to two of the checkpoints in the race. They will be docked points for skipping an AP, but their new improved place in line will garner them more points as they traverse the course.

9:30am Bike Trailer Demo & Swap & Share
Bike trailer designer Len Rubin hosts one of two Bike Trailer Roundup events. Today will be a Bike Trailer Swap, Share & Demo; June 18th will be a Bike Cargo Trailer Design Summit (both events will offer the chance to meet other users and designers, check-out & see photos & demos of the vast spectrum of commercial offerings, regional trailers from smaller fabricators and interesting custom, one-off and home-built trailers) at Len’s home in Sellwood. Come over for coffee and donuts! Check out our collection of trailers, share your own trailer(s) & trailer ideas with others. Rain or shine.

9:30am PDX2Camas
Plain and Simple. We ride from Northeast Portland out to Camas WA. and back after a snack. A great easy ride to put in some miles and see some new roads. Helmets are required in Vancouver (Which we will quickly pass through). Toilet paper decorating is encouraged (for your bikes, not houses).

10:00am Bikes for Humanity Volunteer Repair Clinics
Bikes For Humanity (B4H) is a community service project aimed at providing the public affordable refurbished bikes, repair classes & workshop space. We have 100+ donated used bikes & need volunteers to catalog, clean and refurbish the bikes for a bike adoption event in July. Shop space has been donated for volunteer training and bike repair. We will begin weekly clinics starting, Tues 5/3/2011. For full details see https://sites.google.com/site/bikes4humanity/

Sunny Nekkid Ride — 3 hours, 20 miles, 5 quadrants, a good time was had by all. Passers-by seemed much more accustomed to naked bicyclists than in years past ;^)
