Re-paving project will bring more traffic to Lincoln/Clinton bike streets

A re-paving project will close two blocks of SE Division for two weeks beginning this Monday (12/6) later this month. The work, which the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) announced today, means all vehicle traffic from Division (an arterial) will be detoured onto SE Lincoln and Clinton — both of which are key east-west bikeways.

PBOT will detour westbound traffic north on SE 42nd SE 52nd, west onto SE Lincoln, and then south onto SE 50th and back to SE Division. Eastbound traffic will be detoured south onto SE 50th, east onto SE Clinton, north onto SE 52nd, and back to SE Division. The closures on Division will only take place from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

In their traffic advisory, PBOT notes that, “The public is advised to expect delays and travel cautiously in the work zone. Motorists and bicyclists are advised to use alternate routes.”

UPDATE: PBOT just cancelled this traffic advisory, saying that the work will be “delayed until after the holidays.”

Hi Jonathan, I’m confused re: westbound traffic. How does traffic find 50th traveling westbound from 42nd?

i’ve asked PBOT for clarification and will edit the story if necessary

UPDATE: It was a typo by PBOT in their release. I’ve edited the story. thanks for catching that.

As happy as I am that the bike boulevards are getting repaved, I really wish they would spend some money repaving the extremely rutty streets past 60th or so. But, maybe that comes down to some property tax thing.

this story is about Division being repaved… NOT the bike boulevards. just wanted to make sure your realized that.

Ah, didn’t read it close enough. Thanks for pointing that out!

People should also be aware that this project could go beyond schedule if there are problems. Division is a major utility right-of-way, not all of which are fully documented. If a work crew accidentally strikes or severs one of those conduits, it could affect the work schedule.

I’m still waiting for the Clinton Street Bike Boulevard Enhancement Project to actually happen. How many years are they going to keep pushing this back?

your current link up there, “announced today” actually goes to a page about SE 92nd and SE Holgate being reduced to one lane on Monday and Tuesday… which is awesome! it should be 2 lanes permanently with the bike lane extended through from where it ends at 96th to past 92nd, such as 90th where the extra lane ends…

Let us pray for these brave men and women as they perform the thankless task of repaving the streets of Portland. Merry Christmas!

why anyone uses that section of Division is beyond me. I quit driving on it unless I am headed to Los Gorditos/North etc years ago.
