Rapha Performance Roadwear, whose North American headquarters are in North Portland, has partnered with Focus Bicycles USA to field a professional cyclocross team for the 2010-2011 season. The Rapha-Focus Team will consist of young up-and-coming racers Chris Jones (Auburn, California) and Zach McDonald (Seattle, Washington).
Rapha and Focus see this new team as a way to support and participate in America’s growing ‘cross scene. Here’s a quote from Focus Bicycles USA president Scott Rittschof:
“The joint effort and investment of our two passionate, discerning and authentic brands should prove to give a push to the domestic cyclocross racing scene in advance of the world championships being held here in 2013.”
And Slate Olson, GM for Rapha North America (whose headquarters are on N. Mississippi Avenue), had this to say via an official statement:
“At the foundation of our company is a passion for racing… With our North American headquarters in Portland and penchant for the suffering of racing, the sport of cyclocross is a natural area for the company.”
