Checking in and thanks

Hi everyone. As you might have noticed, last week I was away from the office on a camping trip with the family. Now this week I’m still camping — only this time I’m doing it with 2,500 other people as part of Cycle Oregon.

I’m in Yreka, California now, having completed Day 1 of the ride. I have loads of photos and notes to share, but before I do, I want to say thanks to a few people.

Last week was the first time I left BikePortland.org under complete control of someone else since I started it over four years ago. Thankfully, Ms. Elly Blue did a bang-up job. I hope you’ll all join me in thanking her for taking the helm with such aplomb. She’ll also be on-point all this coming week while I pedal my way 440 miles through southern Oregon. Thanks Elly!

Now, back to Cycle Oregon. Several folks have helped me out on this trip. First, there’s the people behind Cycle Oregon. They have supported BikePortland for many years and I am very grateful that they continue to welcome me on the ride each year.

Another big thank you goes out to Icebreaker, the Portland-based company that makes some very fine merino wool clothing. My Icebreaker stuff is perfect on the bike or off. It breathes. It doesn’t smell. It looks good. What more could you want?

I’m also lucky to be able to have partnered up with Pro Photo Supply in Northwest Portland. The staff over there is always helpful and they help keep me going with top quality cameras and lenses.

Finally, a big thank you to another Portland-based company, Chris King Precision Components, makers of the new Cielo bicycles. I worked for Chris King in Santa Barbara back in the ’90s and it’s neat that they ended up in Portland. I am loving my new Cielo (not really “mine”, but I like to dream) and I’ll be sharing photos and thoughts about it soon.

Okay, now stay tuned for some Cycle Oregon coverage…

Jonathan:

You lived in SB when I did? Goes to show: small world. Also, I didn’t ride at all back then.
