Good Day,

I am all for giving space on the roads for walkers, bike riders, motorcycle and Segway riders. The bicyclist, I encountered this morning looked like a very professional bicyclist. All the right gear, and safety markings. However, he made us other bicyclists look bad, he was weaving in and around cars, would shoot over to the crosswalks and go against red lights. Never slowed down or paid attention to his surrounds, hence, more in the road than most riders. Hello, first day of school-more traffic, more time needed to get where you are going. Unless, you drive like the bicyclist on Walker Rd around 7:40 am on 09/08/09. He is lucky that he didn’t get hit; which I would have stopped and testified to his ride behaviors.
Come on people, use your brains!

Rainy weather kept Cycle Wild from riding out to the coast this weekend, but we rode out to Champoeg State Park instead. Normally, Cycle Wild travels south from Portland through Oregon City, but this time we rode south from Hillsboro through wine country, stopping at Adelsheim Winery and having a bottle of Pinor Noir while overlooking cloud-shrouded hills of the vineyard when the sun finally broke out.

Champoeg State Park is a historic site with multiple museums and a historic store which is the oldest operating store in Oregon. We spent much of the day checking these sites out, and were indoors for the Sunday rain, before the skies cleared up for the afternoon and evening.

Our return on Labor Day was via the Canby Ferry and West Linn – a great time was had by all.

Thanks to the 40+ riders who braved the rainy morning weather on Saturday and came out for the fun and very educational Save Helvetia Ride, which turned out to be not that rainy after all. Special thanks to Washington County Commissioner Dick Schouten – who joined us on the long ride – and to the friendly farmers who hosted us along the route and shared their personal stories.

BTW: For those of you who missed out on this beautiful ride, we hope to do an encore sometime mid-October. Details will be posted at http://www.savehelvetia.org (as soon as we have nailed the exact date).

Kris,

Thanks for helping to organize the Save Helvetia Ride on Saturday. It was a great time and a great cause.
