Reader photo of the week: Keg return by bike

Bakfiets

Jonathan’s story in 2005 about how he and Sara Stout hauled two 180lb kegs across town was one of the first big draws for site traffic from around the country for what was then a very young blog.

It’s no longer quite such an unusual sight to see a party’s worth of beer, or all sorts of other unlikely cargo, being hauled around town by bike. Portland’s come a long way!

In Ames IA, there’s a group called Bikes At Work that builds heavy duty trailers – I’ve seen those guys hauling a full size refridgerator on one.

Here’s what appeared to be a full keg on a Yuba Mundo from last summer.

How else would you carry a keg? Way too big to walk with, and won’t fit in a pannier. 🙂

Are those fresh pizzas on the rear rack?

I would have followed him home.

Nice. here’s my version of the bike powered keg mobile: The Draught Horse. A custom built trailer designed around the dimenstions of a keg and featuring a custom made bar and modified pump mechanism. Photos of the contraption are on my stie:
