Human Power Challenge
Join Oregon Human Powered Vehicles at PIR for a weekend-long series of drag races, time trials, and displays of skill, agility, and speed — all powered by people, though this year features the first race with an electric assist category. It’s free to come watch the spectacle.

“Veer” Screening
Tonight PSU Transportation Options presents a free screening of “Veer,” a documentary that covers many aspects of Portland’s bike culture, and which has been enjoying successful screenings and awards (including Best Documentary at the Calgary Film Festival). Read our review here.

Underpants and Heavy Cans
This “unique food drive” is an alleycat style race where checkpoints are grocery stores, winners are judged on weight carried rather than speed, and prizes include specially made underpants. Benefits the Oregon Food Bank, and will incorporate a stop by the LAF block party (details below).

Let me add about Human Powered Challenge at PIR – the race is only one attraction – there’s been a casual tradition of bring out your wackiest, strangest human powered machines and showing them to each other and sometimes letting people ride them!
I’ll bring my Trice Q – if you ask nicely, I’ll let you take it for a quick spin. If you’ve ever been curious about recumbents, you should check it out.
There’s the Zoobomb monument dedication going on tonight too at 5.

Also associated with the PIR Human Power races this year is the 3rd Annual Left Coast Velomobile Gathering. Folks from up and down the coast will be bringing their velos for socializing and riding. They’ll be touring the waterfront on Saturday, then doing the Springwater/ Marine Drive loop on Sunday. Look out for these sleek machines invading town!

Portland to the coast and back! 150 miles roundtrip.
The weather out there was just pefect. Did anyone else make it out on a good ride?
I was in Davis for the weekend. What a great cycling town! I didn’t have a bike with me (next time!), but did some walking around. I like how they’ve integrated bike lanes with arterial streets. Many of the main arterials have no on-street parking, so there is no danger of being doored. Wish we’d do that to SE Division east of 82nd …
