Here’s a cool, pedal-powered activity for your summer house guests…

PDX Pedicabs and the Old Town/Chinatown Neighborhood Association have teamed up to produce a 45-minute audio tour that they say will take pedicab passengers, “back through the layers of Old Town history”.

This new “eco-tour program” is made possible by pedicabs that have been outfitted with an audio system that plays a presentation written by “neighborhood insiders and cultural specialists”.

A press release announcing the new program also says that the pedicab drivers will “provide tips on everything from summer events to boutique offerings to what’s on the menu at local restaurants.”

The tours leave from Portland Saturday Market (SW 1st and Ankeny) and the Chinese Garden (NW 3rd at Everett) throughout the day on Sundays or you can call 503-PEDICAB for a reservation. Tickets are $15 per person, children 12 and under free with an adult.

Special thanks to all involved on this from the Neighborhood Association. This project received a grant and went from idea to fruition in just a few short months. Come bike in Old Town!

And let\’s start working on making Flanders the bike thorough-fare it should be (connection to the waterfront anyone?).

I think these are incredible, I really do. They are much cleaner and safer looking than the ones they have in NYC.

HOWEVER

Someone has got to stop letting them ride around like maniacs through the public fountains. My two year old was nearly hit by one gentleman driving one through the water with passengers. My daughter was lying down in the water at the Jameson Water Park and he rode through and nearly drove right over her. I shouted out and he barely looked back, only to drive back around and drive through a second time, almost hitting another child.

Again, they are cool, but lets be responsible while behind the wheel…

Good to know. I asked about a tour for a visiting friend once and was told $50 an hour … ouch! This is much more affordable.
