‘Velo on the Volcano’ race series kicks off tonight

Whether you watch or race (or both) Mt. Tabor never disappoints.

Beginning tonight — and for the next six Wednesday evenings — Mt. Tabor Park in southeast Portland will be home to fast descents, strenuous climbs, and plenty of bike racing action.

The River City Bicycles Mt. Tabor Series will pit various categories of racers against the park’s legendary, 1.3 mile circuit. The spectator-friendly course (there’s even a play structure for the little ones!) winds around a dormant volcano, plunges down to the Mt. Tabor Reservoir and then offers a challenging climb to the start/finish area.

Take a picnic, sign up to race, or just come out and see the latest lycra racing fashions.

Thanks for the heads up. My ride was going to pass through Mt. Tabor this evening. Now I know to avoid it.

I\’m trying to get my head in the right place for the short but painful fixed gear category. The good news is that in three hours from this moment, I\’ll be done and the pain will be over. Why I race I\’ll never know.
