Non-profit finds a new home; will expand bike shop

Back in December, a truck accidentally rammed into the wall of the Community Cycling Center’s offices in Northeast Portland. The impact of that collision caused thousands of dollars in damage and forced the non-profit to scramble for space.

Since the accident, six employees had to work in local coffee-shops and nine staffers have crammed into an adjacent office that is meant to hold only five. The CCC faced a big cleanup and had to purchase new equipment and office furniture.

But fortunately, things are about to change for the better, for good.

Next week, the CCC will move its administrative offices from NE Alberta and 17th (where they’ve been for 12 years), to a new building on NE Martin Luther King Blvd. (between Shaver and Failing Streets).

The CCC’s development and communications director, Alison Hill, says the staff is very excited for the move. Not only is the new office in a certified green building with features like bike lockers and showers; but the old location will now have much more space for their retail bike shop and more elbow-room for to accommodate their growing list of programs.

CCC Volunteer night

More room coming soon.

The CCC expects to be working in their new office by April 11th and plans are on the table for an open house celebration this summer.

Congratulations, Remmers, Allison and crew! I always wondered how you could get so much done in that cramped space.

CCC has ALWAYS been there for me when I am working on one strange project or another. They helped me with both Tankagnolo clones and numerous other workings with old frames and parts. You rule CCC. – Tankognolo Bob

Not to pick too many nits, but the CCC has been at the 17th and NE Alberta location since the spring of 2001 (7 years), previously they were located at 24th and NE Alberta.

Thanks, Jonathan and everyone.

We are so excited.

It has been a long time coming for this hard-working organization. Many of you dedicated untold hours toiling in the windowless confines of two small rooms at 17th and Alberta for almost ten years (and in other cramped quarters on Alberta Street before that).

We are all looking forward to having a little more breathing room all around.

We are planning a bike move. Kim Whitney is coordinating the move and will be sending around details of the move later this week. Hope to see you out there!
