League certificiation courses coming to Eugene

In light of our tragic October, many folks wondered how we could do a better job educating bicyclists about how to ride more defensively.

Below is a notice about some training courses by the League of American Bicyclists that are being offered in Eugene in February:

League of American Bicyclists Instructor Certification Courses Coming to Eugene

~~~~~
Help bring the joy of safe cycling to others! Becoming a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certified to teach Bike Education is a great way to encourage positive and safe cycling skills in our community.
Certified instructors can teach BikeEd classes to children as well as adults. If you are an experienced cyclist and would enjoy teaching skills on safe cycling to others, please consider taking this step towards certification. Those interested in becoming an LCI must complete the Road-One course prior to enrolling in the LCI certification course.
The two-day Road-1 course will be offered February 1st – 2nd in Eugene. The registration fee has been reduced to $20. This class is sponsored by the City of Eugene Transportation Options. For more information on the course, see the website or contact Shane Rhodes (LCI) at shanerh@mac.com or 541-556-3553.
The three-day LCI certification course will be offered February 15th -17th in Eugene. The registration fee is $200. For more information on the LCI course, see http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/education/seminars.php or contact Paul Adkins at paul(at)bikefriday(dot)com or 541-255-2478.
The League of American Bicyclists can lead this same course in Portland if there are at least ten people signed up and paid, and the League\’s education director will be in the area in early 2008.
Let me know if you are interested!
Thanks for the posting. The more Cycling Instructors we have out there giving Bike Ed courses the more safe cyclists we have on the road!
You can expect to see Portland Road 1 classes in October 08, if all goes according to plan.
Will they offered at an affordable rate? I note at the League\’s website that the regular rate is 50.00 per person, more than many bicycle riders can afford.
Can we hope for a susiby here?
