PDOT’s ‘I brake for people’ campaign off and running

The City of Portland’s new “I brake for people” pedestrian safety campaign is off and running (or should I say walking).

The graphic and slogan can been seen around town on bus, MAX train, and bus bench ads. In addition are a series of 15 second sound bites running after traffic reports on five local AM/FM radio stations.

They’ve also begun distributing their “I brake for people” bumper stickers at events and at various locations through the City.

If you want your very own bumper sticker, call PDOT’s Traffic Safety and Neighborhood Livability hotline at (503) 823-SAFE (7233) or safe(at)pdxtrans(dot)org.

Sharon White of PDOT says, “Our goal is to get as many of these out in the community as possible,” and that they’ve already distributed the stickers to well over 2,000 to individuals, non-profits, community groups, businesses, and Neighborhood Associations.

White says the bus bench ads (like the one in the photo above) are located on or near SE 82nd Ave., which is currently the focus of a special transportation safety project.

A nice photo location choice…with a large SUV hovering over the ad…kinda like being a ped in a crosswalk…hoping they will brake for me in time. 😉

because people on bikes are supposed to use the roads- so they should brake for people too…

hanmade..
its a pedestrian safety campaign…do you want to be traffic or do you want to be a pedestrian?
I know, these little details and classifications get so confusing…
bike don\’t belong in crosswalks…unless you\’re walking them.
