An employee at the non-profit Community Cycling Center (CCC) has won the Skidmore Prize.

Neal Armstrong, the CCC’s volunteer and events manager, is one of four winners of the prize. He’ll receive a $4,000 personal grant and will featured in the Willamette Week’s 2007 Give Guide (slated for their November 14th issue).

CCC development director Alison Hill Graves says, “Neal makes everyone feel at home when they dedicate their time to the Community Cycling Center…Our volunteer program is the lifeblood of this organization, and Neal is an excellent steward for our community.”

According to Graves, in 2006 alone, Neal organized more than 2,000 volunteers to dedicate 16,500 hours to collect, refurbish, and distribute 2,000 bikes to low-income youth and adults.

Neal and the other Skidmore Prize Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony today at the Governor Hotel. Following the ceremony, Mark Zusman, editor of Willamette Week, will host a panel discussion featuring the prize winners entitled, “Today’s Non-Profit Pioneers: Recognizing a younger generation of non-profit leaders.”

This forum is hosted by the City Club of Portland and will be broadcast on KOPB (91.5 FM) at 7 PM tonight.

The Skidmore Prize was created by Willamette Week in conjunction with Momentum Market Intelligence, a local Portland market research and consulting firm. The goal of the award is to provide added incentives for people who work at local non-profits and improve the quality of life in the region.

Congratulations Neal!
