Greenspace advocate gets deserved recognition

The Editorial Board of the Oregonian devoted a column to Mike Houck today.

Houck is a dedicated advocate who founded the Urban Greenspaces Institute and who works to preserve natural areas in our city. From restoring the Columbia Slough to saving Oaks Bottom, Houck is a force to be reckoned with.

I know him primarily through the annual Visionary Voyage rides he helps coordinate. These rides bring together regional leaders for an up-close look at the highs and lows of our bikeways and trails.

Houck plays in invaluable role in creating and maintaining the natural areas many Portlanders take for granted. Learn more and consider donating to his work at UrbanGreenspaces.org.

We\’re enormously lucky to have Mike in the Portland area, where he\’s accomplished so much. Not to mention that he\’s a very nice guy and a good bike rider. I met him on the \”Ride on the Wild Side\” rides that he helped organize and lead with the Audubon Society and Parks Dept. Since then,there\’s been the success of theGreen Spaces Initiative, etc., etc. Good to see he\’s getting some recognition.

Mike – Congrats from all your associates and supporters up in Vancouver!!!

I enjoyed working with you (and Cycle Oregon) over the last two years to organize the Vancouver-Portland Roll on Columbia rides for policy makers.

Roll On Mike!
