Sorry it’s a day late, but here you go…

What are you up to this weekend?

Are you riding around to the various Time Based Art Festival events?
Or perhaps taking in some bike films? (Don’t miss the Sprockettes at the closing night party on Sunday, it’ll be Juli’s debut!)

How about that Muddy Boot Organic Festival…anyone have a report? Today was also the Belmont Street Fair; how’d the street closure go? Anyone planning on doing the Meet the Team Ride tomorrow?

I’m in Sisters at Cycle Oregon, just about to hit the sack before embarking on 60+ miles tomorrow.

Feel free to share your bike adventures in the comments below…

Biked over to the Equinox for breakfast with some friends, then over to the bike film fest to volunteer and watch a few films. The documentaries of people sending bikes to Africa were very moving. And Klunkerz was great, especially for this newly hooked MTBer.

Tomorrow off to Dirty Martini & Stolen Sweets performances at the Muddy Boot and no doubt some excellent food!

This is the perfect place to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make Belmont car-freedom happen as well as Muddy Boots.
Bill Stites got us a spot, and REAL grass (sod) for our carfree booth. We had Kirsten\’s pedal-powered smoothies and Elly\’s couch. Tomas and Benjamin helped with bike repairs, and Kirsty Hall helped with setup. What was so amazing is that being in front of a bar, we had lots of completely unaware folks stopping by and laying on the grass, or talking with us. I want to send a big thanks to the Belmont neighborhood for their support.
Muddy Boots apparently kept Steven from Exchange Cycle Tours very busy with bike repair. He was flying through bikes all day.
Tomarow we\’ll be biking to Troutdale to go tubing (thanks Jonathan for posting that).
Happy weekend 🙂

I bought a Greenspeed recumbent trike at a garage sale for $250. It needs some minor work and a tune up. I\’m feeling pretty good this weekend.

First major ride since my accident. 200K out of Bend. Last part of route Sisters where Cycle Oregon is starting. Great weather, looks like they are in for a great time.

No riding on Saturday – I screwed up my knee running on Friday and needed to let it return to normal. Went to the Muddy Boots Festival instead in time to catch Jackstraw\’s set and check out the vendors – very cool – lots of good ideas re sustainable lifestyles AND Urban Hopworks IPA. Now if the UH people could just get that gosh-darned pub opened!!!

Made up for not riding Saturday with 80 miles of hills Sunday – up and over Sylvan to pick up a friend in Beaverton, back up to Skyline via McDaniel/Thompson – Skyline out to OC Pass, down to Rock Creek and back up to Skyline, down (and UP) Beck to Logie Trail, down again and over to North Plains via Jackson Quarry/Mason Hill/Shadybrook – stopped for lunch at OC pass Roadhouse and then battled the headwinds back up and over Sylvan to home. Whew! Except for the wind, the weather was perfect and the views from Skyline incredible. Not many other cyclists out there – -a few, but not nearly as many as I would expect on a beautiful Sunday – I guess they must all be at CO with you, Jonathan 🙂

Rode the trail around Hagg Lake. About 30% of it is rutted so bad that it was almost unrideable, but there were still lots of other riders out … but no one else on a cross bike.

Road the bike from Portland to Rockaway Beach with a friend on Thursday and spent a few nights at my aunt\’s beach condo. Good times.

With RAO in July, PBP in August, and the 508 coming up in October, I didn\’t have anything going on in September. So on a lark I signed up for the Ring of Fire 24 hour race. I managed 392 very hilly miles on my \’bent for a second place finish, and the third highest mileage total ever for the course. I also ended up with the highest combined average speed for Race Across Oregon and the Ring of Fire this year, which won me a Co-Motion Espresso frameset. My hat is off to Urs Koenig, who got first place with 414 miles, and Glenn Johnson, who was my competition for the frameset and who pushed me to the very limit to get it.

Steve,

I was out at Hagg on Saturday morning with my wife. Rode the trail on the cross bike. Only bad rutts where on the north side where the tall grass is. Otherwise the trail seemed to be in good shape. We left at about 9:30 didn\’t see another person on the trail, it was great ride.

Michael W., it\’s frightening to think about what happens when you aren\’t doing things \”just for a lark.\” Good on ya, mate 😉
