Shift — the bike-fun loving group that bring us Breakfast on the Bridges, Bike Moves, PedalPalooza, and more — has been chosen to receive a “Light a Fire” award from Portland Monthly Magazine.
Editor-in-Chief Ted Katzaukas (who happens to be a daily bike commuter) says Shift won in the “Having Fun” category.
On the phone yesterday he explained why they were chosen,
“They were chosen because they’re an organization that encourages people to get out and enjoy the city on a bike…and most importantly because they encourage us to have fun and make the most of the city.”
Katzaukas said one person who wrote in to nominate Shift said,
the Bridges is one of their
signature events.

“I haven’t picked up a bike in several years, but because of their approach, it encouraged me to get out there, meet people, and see the city in a different way.”
The awards were created by Portland Monthly, in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation, in 2005, “as a way to honor and celebrate the critical work of local nonprofits…particularly organizations that tend to operate out of the public spotlight.”
The magazine will now work on shooting a 30-second video of Shift that will be played at a gala event at the Portland Art Museum on October 30th. Shift will also be profiled in the November issue of Portland Monthly Magazine.
