Tonkin gets World’s nod, and first fan site

Local cyclocross racer and co-owner of Sellwood Cyclery Erik Tonkin, will join a team to represent the U.S. at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, on January 28 in Hooglede-Gits, Belgium.

Tonkin, a wily cross veteran, has put together yet another stellar year, capping things off with a very impressive 16th place finish at a race among the world’s best in Belgium last month.

But I’m sure that news pales in comparison to getting your own international fan club. That’s right, someone from OBRA forwarded a link to the Tonkinators, which is the online home of Tonkin’s burgeoning Belgium fan club.

In the video below, it’s easy to see why Erik is so well-liked by the locals:

Congratulations Erik…we’ll be rooting for you. Just lay off the Jupiler until after the race! ;-)
