33rd Avenue bridge re-opens

Easy access to the Marine Drive bike path has been restored with the completion of the refurbished 33rd Avenue bridge over NE Lombard Street.

This means cyclists no longer have to take the tricky detour that I wrote about when the bridge was demolished back in March.

According to the official PDOT project update report, the bridge re-opened to traffic on December 22nd. There are no specific bike facilities on the bridge but it has been slightly widened and it provides direct access to Marine Drive. For questions contact Project Manager Paul Gornick at paul[dot]gornick[at]pdxtrans[dot]org.

I though bike lanes are required by law when a road is reconstructed?

I think that’s if it’s PDOT, not ODOT.

I’d be interested to know why the project took so much longer than promised.

I rode across the bridge about a week ago and it is nice and wide and easy to navigate.
