hey, i have the exact same bike and my friend saw one just like it today at stumptown. she actually approached the guy and asked where he got it, because she thought mine had been possibly stolen. he said he bought it for really cheap(maybe this is yours). i'll get more details from her and post them, and i will keep my eye out when i am around stumptown. if you have anything specific you would like me to ask, email me at kyledlarson@gmail.com. i love my bike, and it breaks my heart to hear that you lost yours.

    Hey Jonathan,

I just had a crazy idea. How about setting up a photo booth at various big cycling events to take a "fingerprint" shot of people's bikes? They could fill out a couple of basic details on a register, and the shot would be available if their steed was ever stolen.

    Ethan,
This is a great idea, however regardless of whether it is an organized effort or not, I would recommend that everyone take picture(s) of their bikes (different angles, unique features/components, etc.) as well as documenting out a description with component list, etc. Almost as if you were preparing an ad to sell.

I've done this both as a both a precaution and because I'm just a geek.

    Ethan,
My friend and I had an idea that we were going to do once we both got settled in our new homes... however, we never got around to it...
Anyway, my plan was to have people bring their bikes, take detailed digital photos and a polaroid. Document serial number, parts, etc. Keep both copies on a computer(hopefully online as well) and on paper. give the person a copy of all the pictures on a cd or floppy(including all info), plus a print of the info.
We were thinking like $5 a bike to cover the price of polariod film and blank cds.

I'm still willing to start this but lately haven't had the free time(damn you mon-fri 3 to midnight shift!).

    yeah.
