Stickers and sponsors

Posted by on October 9th, 2005 at 12:06 am

I’ve got two big announcements to make. First the good news, then the good news.

Stickers are here…and they’re free! I’ll be passing them out around town, or you can send me a self-addressed, stamped envelope with a sweet little love note inside.

And in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve put a fair bit of time into this site over the last few months. It is truly a labor of love. But as this site has grown, it’s getting harder and harder to justify the time it takes to keep it going. So, in order to not just continue, but to make it even better I’ve decided to find sponsors. This is new ground for me, but it’s going to work out great. Trust me. I’m not going to disrespect you with annoying, flickering banners or intrusive pop-up windows. I’m also not going to partner up with random companies that have no relationship to bikes or the bike community.

My first partners (actually co-sponsors) are Cyclepath Bike Shop and Mountain Cycle. Check them out on the new “Sponsors” page. These two local companies have stepped up to make it possible for me to get out and cover the cyclocross scene in all its glory.

So that’s it. I hope you understand where I’m coming from. If not, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for your continued support.

NOTE: At BikePortland, we love your comments. We love them so much that we devote many hours every week to read them and make sure they are productive, inclusive, and supportive (heck, sometimes we even fix your typos!). That doesn't mean you can't disagree with someone. It means you must do it with tact and respect. This is our business and we do not tolerate mean commenters who add nothing of value to the discussion.

Unfortunately, we are not robots and we don't always catch everything. You can help by notifying us if you see inappropriate comments. Thanks! — Jonathan and Michael

Congratulations, Jonathan! Good on you on the sponsors, and on your success! I like the Mountain Bike folks — they’re a couple blocks from my house, and I’ve been super curious about them. And I still need to visit Cyclepath…but maybe, hopefully, today!

What about a possible T-shirt? I’m itching to buy one! My self-addressed envelope will be in the mail this week!

Maybe you can treat the Mountain Cycle guys to a treat at the new Pix Patisserie right across the street from their shop! And I hope you didn’t go to Cyclepath today, ‘cuz they’re closed Sundays. I’ll be in there Monday…perhaps I’ll run into you.

I’m just as excited about the T-shirt as you are! I have a special treat planned for everyone and I’ll post more details about it soon. Thanks for reading and commenting. I look forward to sending some stickers your way.

great job on the site and congrats to its success. I want to thank you for the support youre giving the community, racing and local bike businesses, including ours. Portland as a whole is awesome for its support for cycling. Community involvement and good community resources like this are where its at, and we’re proud to be a part of what youre doing. Keep up the good work. Youll probably need to get us more of your stickers as these things are already a hit and you just dropped them off today!

    Thanks, Bill
